“When we did the Seattle Central Library, although I was living in Rotterdam and hadn’t been a Seattle resident for a long time, my family was still in Seattle. And there certainly was something about that. I used to say jokingly that, ‘If this building is not successful, my mother is going to get stoned in the grocery store.’ My best friends from high school’s kids will either go there and love it — or not go there and complain. And I’ll always have to confront that! So, there’s absolutely something to that.”
