“I was working with the artist and director Christoph Schlingensief on the Opera Village, and he really had a vision for this space for opera and theater. He was a very, very intense personality, very creative. He wanted to embed his vision in an area where you have a lot of people but where you have informality: an informal city. He found the tension between the two different structures in the city so important for his vision — but then we had a flood. So we had to change the whole idea, and we weren’t able to build on that site. Now the project includes residential, educational, and recreational amenities as well.”
