Chrysler Building

César Pelli

César Pelli:

“I think the first few floors at the top of the Chrysler Building are so admired because they have that feeling, this emotional trust that the building is conveying to us from the ground to the sky, to heaven. The funny thing is that the Chrysler Building is not only a vista — with skyscrapers in a city, you almost never see them completely top to bottom. You only see the upper part or the entrance; it’s very rare that you see them together. That’s the beauty of the Chrysler building, is that the top is a magnificent crown that appears to go forever, that appears to be reaching the sky.”
