“Our firm is working on a performing arts center at Brown University, and it has, very explicitly, a requirement of being a home for symphony orchestra. In thinking about this project, we had in mind both the Neuenational Galerie by Mies van der Rohe and Berliner Philharmonie by Hans Scharoun. I think we started out with an affinity more for the Neue Nationalgalerie... But it was really hard to confront and accept the elegance of the Philharmonie. In all of our discussions, we always return to those poles that sit maybe a couple hundred meters away from each other. They are both exquisite. They are two of the most beloved buildings on the planet.”
